Reform Dyfed-Powys Police

How to Make a Complaint about Dyfed-Powys Police

This is a plain-English guide to the official process. Always keep copies of everything you send and receive.

1. Most complaints (officers or staff below Chief Constable)

These go to the force’s Professional Standards Department (PSD).

2. Complaints about the Chief Constable

These go to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).

3. What to include in your complaint

Tip: Ask for your complaint to be recorded under Schedule 3 of the Police Reform Act 2002 if you want the full formal process and the right to a later review.

4. After you receive the outcome

If you are unhappy with how the complaint was handled or the outcome, you usually have the right to request a review.

The review looks at whether the handling was reasonable and proportionate — it does not re-investigate the original incident from scratch.

5. Very serious cases

Deaths or serious injuries following police contact, serious corruption, or certain other sensitive matters must be referred to the IOPC. You can still submit your complaint to the force or via the IOPC website.

Important: This is general information only and is not legal advice. Processes and time limits can change. Always check the latest official guidance.
